Mad Buddies - yes, another Schuster movie!
The movie brings us the story of two people, one Boetie (played by Schuster) and the other, Beast (played by Kenneth Nkosi). Boetie and Beast are common enemies due to a poacher-hunting incident gone wrong years ago. As fate has it, they meet again years later and, after ruining the wedding reception of the Minister of Tourism's daughter, they are sent to prison.
Luckily for them, a hotshot TV producer (played by Tanit Phoenix) loves their rivalry and decides to do a hit reality show. Our two heroes are released from prison and are forced to do a road trip on foot from KZN to Gauteng. The catch: they don't know they are being filmed for this reality show and that the whole nation is in on the joke, watching their every move.
Boring after a while
The aim of the show is to get people to believe that these two can be friends, but, as you can imagine, they refuse to work together, to the amusement of the people watching, but disappointing to the Minister whose job is on the line because of their rivalry.
Although the movie does provide a good chuckle every now and again, it gets boring after a while with the two heroes stabbing each other in the back time and again, and especially how the Minister keeps hurting himself in obscure ways. Slapstick at its best. If that isn't your cup of tea, you will be disappointed.
But if you are a Schuster fan, boetie, ek sê vir jou, you are going to love it. Round up the kids, get your wife to dress in her finest and hit the theatres for Mad Buddies. Showing from today, 22 June, at all participating cinemas.
