In need of mentors for vulnerable children

If you are over 18, no criminal record and have an hour to spare once a week, then this is for you. No finances attached, good programme. In the year 2007 about 350 mentors in the programme. Make a difference in a child's life, come and be a good role model to a child and give them what they are missing in their lives; a friend.

We are an international mentoring organisation and the programme started in South Africa in the year 2000. We have branches in Cape Town, Durban, Pietermaritzburg and Johannesburg. We recruit volunteers and while children are refered to us by children's homes, we interview them and train them for three days on weekends which is compulsory and free. Then we match the volunteer with the child looking at the child's weakness and the volunteer's strength. The match goes on for a period of a year while the volunteer visits the child where they stay and we make sure that they are matched at a children's home near their area. After a year the volunteer and the child receives an international recognised certificate and they choose whether they are closing the match or to continue.
