Second network operator to end monopoly?
In response to announcements that 7 black-owned businesses will be bidding for the country's 2nd network operator licence, top economist, Mike Schussler of Tradek, says that he believes that the second network operator will elevate South Africa to the information age, and possibly become a major world player in telecommunications. But Dawie Roodt, however, from PLJ Financial Services, says that more than two operators is needed or there will still be a monopoly of sorts. The 2nd operator licence is expected to be issued in October.
