Radio 2000 and Quads4Quads making a difference
Quads4Quads is a fundraising initiative formed by Family Adventures to raise funds for the QuadPara Association of South Africa (QASA). This year 300 quad bikers and two wheel riders drove down to Ballito from Johannesburg and back to raise 1 million rand to build a new self help centre for quads and paraplegic people. On Sunday the 30th September the riders returned to Johannesburg and a cheque to the value of 1, 1 million rand was handed over to the national director of QASA Ari Seirlis. Seirlis was very happy that the target was met and had this to say, "Thank-you for wanting to help change the lives of all quad and paraplegic people in South Africa."
One of Radio 2000's on-air personalities Doug Anderson also participated in the Quads4Quads journey and he as many of the other riders has been disabled since birth. Passionate about educating people about the disability sector, he hosts “Making a Difference with Doug Anderson.” This is an inclusive show targeting all citizens and deals with issues like “effective planning at the workplace for disabled people,” sport for the disabled, etc. Radio 2000 had live crossings from the studio to Doug for regular updates; Radio 2000 was there every step of the way.
Doug was the only disabled rider who completed the ride from Johannesburg to Ballito and back, a 1000km journey that is also grueling to any able bodied individual. "I realised that by participating in Quads4Quads, I would be making a difference to QASA and in turn, be making a difference in the lives of many quadriplegics and paraplegics in South Africa. Being a paraplegic myself, I also wanted to participate to inspire those with disabilities, to show them that limitations are only in the mind" said Doug Anderson.
