New player in East African terrestrial TV arena
The deal follows three major free-to-air satellite distribution deals in Nigeria and Ghana, concluded last week.
The company's latest distribution agreement, launched in Nairobi, Kenya, last night (Thursday 21 February 2008) will allow for the broadcast of the business and financial news channel on the newly launched Capital Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) television network.
CBC TV Chairman Chris Kirubi, a well-known businessman in East Africa and Chairman of the Capital Group of companies, said at the gala launch event that the distribution deal would build a new platform for Kenyan participation in the global economic and business environment.
"This launch is in response to the growing need for incisive business news. Kenya is rising as a key investment arena within Africa and the stories about local businesses and operations need to be told," said Kirubi.
Kenyan Finance Minister, Amos Kimunya, said at the launch, “This partnership comes at a very opportune time. Kenya, despite the obvious recent political turmoil, is still a great place to invest and we believe this type of collaboration in the business news environment will help create understanding about the opportunities in our country”.
The company's COO, Gary Alfonso, said in Nairobi that the Kenyan economic story is already firmly embedded in the channel's daily coverage of business activities across Africa.
