Foreign film festivals a must for movie buffs
Many of the films have gained international recognition by winning accolades at major international film festivals.
“We are also pleased to confirm a number of screenings with filmmakers in attendance, which means that audiences will be offered the opportunity to engage award-winning international and local filmmakers in discussion about their respective films,” says Rehad Desai, festival co-director.
A collaborative effort, between Tri Continental Film Festival, Encounters South African International Documentary Festival and the Southern Africa Communications for Development (SACOD), the 2nd Biennial People to People Documentary Conference will be held in conjunction with the festival. The conference will run from 10-12 September in Johannesburg.
The distinctive drama, passion and humour of South American cinema is set to captivate Gauteng Cinema Nouveau audiences between 21 August and 3 September, when the Embassies of the Latin-American and Caribbean Group (GRULAC) present the 5th Latin-American and Caribbean Film Festival.
“Crossing over a diverse range of theatrical genres, which include comedy, drama and action, this year's festival will give Cinema Nouveau audiences a glimpse into Latin-American and Caribbean culture,” says Michael Bender, marketing executive for Ster-Kinekor Theatres.
South African moviegoers can see the festival free at Cinema Nouveau in Brooklyn Mall, Pretoria and Cinema Nouveau at the Rosebank Mall. Tickets can be picked up at the venue an hour before each show (Mondays to Sundays at 2pm, 5.15pm and 8pm).
