SA's largest Plasma Display Panel wall launched

LG Electronics South Africa has joined with Airports Company South Africa, the JSE Securities Exchange South Africa and Bloomberg to create a complete multimedia experience at Johannesburg International Airport's domestic arrivals terminal.

The Plasma wall, which measures a massive 3.7 metres wide and 2.3 metres high, will be used to display a variety of business information from the JSE via Bloomberg to all the traffic passing through the busy terminal.

The wall is made up of nine (3 x 3) LG FLATRON Plasma Display Panels (PDP), which will combine to make up one huge image. These panels are the latest in display technology, boasting XGA resolution, 1 000:1 contract ratio and LG's patented XD engine, used to boost the realistic image on the PDP.

"LG Electronics are leaders in PDP technology and this massive display is a tribute to LG's extensive research and development programmes," says YJ Khang, Managing Director of LG Electronics South Africa. "It will become indispensable for all the business travellers who will receive the most up to date information in a convenient manner."

LG Electronics is hoping that the wall will lead to many more such installations going up all over the country, for a variety of uses. "Internationally, PDP's have become the display medium of choice and they are used to display information from a variety of inputs including, in-store point-of-purchase information and flight information, breaking news alerts, etc. Due to the fact that they are so slim, they can be put anywhere and they boast a high level of reliability and adaptability," Khang concluded.
