Talk Radio 702 'builds on' the talk
Talk Radio 702 has embarked on a project to build three houses in Ivory Park, near Midrand, in time to present them to three new owners - all women - for National Women's Day this year.
The project is being undertaken in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity. From Monday 2 to Friday 6 August, 702 staffers, listeners and sponsors - Outsurance, Super Group and Carnival City - will be building these houses.
"We decided to embark on this project because it is not only the government's responsibility to provide housing - the private sector has a role to play. Also, 702 has a record of making a difference. By providing homes for these women, their lives will surely change. A house is built with bricks and cement but a home is built with the heart," said 702's Station Manager, Yusuf Abramjee.
Several high-profile personalities will be sweating it out building the houses. They include 702's John Robbie, Tim Modise, David O' Sullivan and Leigh Bennie. Primedia Broadcastings Chairman Dan Moyane, CEO Terry Volkwyn and Primedia directors will also be building. Radio station staff and listeners will complete the houses - from laying the bricks to plastering the walls, erecting the roof and painting.
Habitat for Humanity works in a partnership with people from all walks of life to help communities address their housing needs. Potential homeowners are selected according to their circumstances. In its eight years of active building in South Africa, Habitat for Humanity has built over 1300 simple, decent and affordable houses for South African families in need.
