“Young adults in Africa are eager to learn about what's going on socially, professionally, and politically with their counterparts around the world, and we're happy to provide that platform,” says VOA's English to Africa service chief Sonya Laurence Green. “This show is fast-paced and fun to listen to, and the topics covered provide real food for thought.”
The premiere Up Front show on Wednesday, 16 May 2007, examined the issue of self-image. In the coming weeks, Mvunganyi and Samie will lead listeners through a range of topics, including a look at hip hop culture, successful young entrepreneurs, role models, and how people form their social circles.
The lively, high-energy show features on-the-street opinion spots, interviews with Africans living both within and outside the continent, cultural briefs, health and career segments, and the latest music and artists from the US and Africa.
The weekly, 30-minute magazine show airs on Wednesdays from 5.30pm – 6pm UTC (5.30 pm West Africa; 6.30pm West/Central Africa; 7.30pm southern Africa; 8.30pm East/Horn of Africa).
