Gugulethu youth to benefit from interactive dialogue

The youth of Gugulethu are expected to use their interactive dialogue session with Communications Minister Faith Muthambi to get more information on how they can establish their own community radio station.
Gugulethu youth to benefit from interactive dialogue

Last month, Minister Muthambi had a Pre-Budget Vote interactive session with residents of the Western Cape township, where she promised to return before the end of June.

Today, Minister Muthambi and representatives of all the entities under her department will hold a frank Youth Dialogue and Expo with the future leaders at Gugulethu Sport Complex.

The entities under Minister Muthambi's Department are the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), Government Communication and Information System (GCIS), Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) Brand SA, Media Development and Diversity Agency of South Africa (MDDA) and the Film and Publication Board (FPB).

Speaking to SAnews ahead of the Youth Dialogue, Minister Muthambi said: "As the Ministry, we strongly believe in inclusive communication services for all South Africans. I'm talking about proactive communication that promotes socio-economic development and investment through broadcasting, new media, print media and other new technologies, which also focus on branding our country locally and internationally".

Minister Muthambi said they will also use the platform to urge young people to venture into the film production industry.

The Minister said both the MDDA and ICASA will share with young people on how they can go about setting up community media interventions, while the FPB will share the various initiatives they are implementing.

The Department of Communication team will inform and share with the youth how they can benefit from the broadcasting digital migration programme.

GCIS will make a presentation on how the youth can access the Vukuzenzele Mobile application that keeps South Africans informed of government programmes and services.

This year's National Youth Day and Youth Month are celebrated under the theme: "Youth moving South Africa forward".

The theme takes into account the fact that while the youth of 1976 fought for freedom and the creation of a democratic state, today's youth activism is directed towards successfully tackling the triple challenge of poverty, inequality and unemployment.
