Monitoring service confirms no repeats policy

A recent analysis released by patented broadcast monitoring service AirCheck shows that Jacaranda 94.2's 'no repeats between 9am and 4pm' policy is, in fact, true. AirCheck provides same-day spot and song airplay data to broadcasters, print media and agencies, allowing these stakeholders to track radio and television broadcasts.

"We are aware that high song repetition contributes to increased listener irritation," says Mike Siluma, CEO of Jacaranda 94.2.

"Our policy is aimed at not only reducing the irritation factor, but also at guaranteeing song variety, which in turn ups time spent listening (TSL) and ensures an advertiser's message is communicated to a dedicated audience during 9am and 4pm."

Compared to other stations that repeat top songs on average every three hours - meaning that songs often get played twice during the average seven hour work day period - AirCheck has verified that even Jacaranda 94.2's highest rotation songs are repeated only every four hours on average, but should a song be played just after 9am, for instance, it will not be played again until after 4pm to ensure the work day period remains free of repeats.

"As South Africa's largest regional independent radio station, Jacaranda 94.2 takes into account the views of our listeners," concludes Siluma.
