Premier of the Western Cape Helen Zille and Western Cape MEC of education Debbie Schäfer addressed the important matter of school feeding and then proceeded to count down the clock as over 11500 people braved a chilly morning to walk either 5km or 10km in solidarity, to unite against hunger in our schools. A total of R576 600 was raised for PSFA's Blisters for Bread 2015. This amount will enable the charity to provide 1580 children with a warm nutritious meal (breakfast and lunch) while at school for an entire year.
Chad Saaiman, Acoustic Element and Marguerita and The Bootleggers had the crowd entertained long after the walk had ended. Jade Hubner (Top Billing), Mishka Patel (SABC 3) and Christopher Jafta (West Side Story) dazzled the walkers with lucky draw prizes provided by various contributors.
The PSFA would like to thank all the participants and those who or pledged toward the cause, media partners who selflessly promoted the campaign and the sponsors who contributed in various ways to make this a successful event. We would like to commend various schools that will create their own mini-version of Blisters for Bread in weeks to come and collect funds that will be ploughed into school-feeding infrastructure and the provision of warm nutritious meals.
PSFA is a registered non-profit organisation dedicated to feeding hungry children while they are at school. PSFA was formed in 1958 and currently provide cooked meals to over 24 000 children daily in 156 primary, secondary and special-needs schools throughout the Western Cape.
