Capturing the 'tween' market

The publishers of teen newspaper 'Free 4 All' (print run 300 000), are about to launch a second full-colour tabloid - this time for the tween market, called Free 4 All Early Edition. It will launch on 1 March with an impressive print run of 100 000 and will be targeting all children - boys and girls, from all communities, in the nine to 12 year age group.

"We already have contracts signed by school principals from over 250 Senior Primary schools in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape - which gives us a guaranteed contracted distribution of 100 000 to start with," said publisher and editor Barry Comber. "The strength of both our newspapers is that we are delivered direct to the kids at school - a noteworthy example of 'media in education'.

"Not only is the school environment conducive to reading, but because our newspapers are designed to entertain as well as enlighten, they encourage reading. Over the past 10 years we have enjoyed a 10 - 15% written response to Free 4 All - evidence enough that the newspaper is well read and enjoyed."
