Now in their 30th year, the awards have been open to international entries since 2006. The last South African entry to win at the Awards was for Pampers by advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi South Africa in 2000.

Criteria

The closing date for pre-registration is 29 January 2010, with the final date for submission Friday 23 April 2010. Single entrants are asked to submit a maximum 4000 word case history, whilst for first time papers that are jointly entered (between creative and media agency for example) may have an additional 500 words to make specific reference to the broader marketing strategy deployed. Each case entered should demonstrate the payback of marketing communications ideas in any communications channel.

New, special categories

New for 2010 is the ‘Best Short-Term Effect' prize which will be awarded to the paper that demonstrates the best payback within 12 months of commencement of activity (this could be demonstrated as part of a longer term paper or as a stand-alone short-term paper).

Other special prizes to be awarded this year include: ‘Best Multi-channel' paper; ‘Best International' (single non-UK market or multi-market), ‘Best Media' as well as ‘Best New Learning', ‘Dedication to Effectiveness' and the ‘Effectiveness Company of the Year'.

The shortlist will be announced in September and the results at a black-tie gala ceremony in London in November 2010. The winning papers will be published in a book (part of a series) Advertising Works, and online.
