Date change for Loerie Awards
The Loeries, in their inaugural year under the banner of the Marketing Federation of Southern Africa (MFSA), encourage creative advertising by recognising and rewarding those who strive for advertising excellence.
Davy Ivins, CEO of the MFSA, said that the change of date was necessitated by the fact that the original function coincided with the weekend of Youth Day as well as the start of the Cannes Advertising Awards in France.
"We do not want to appear to be politically insensitive by going ahead with our function on the long weekend of 16 June. In addition, important role players – who would be attending the Cannes event – indicated that they did not want to miss out on this year's glittering function, which is in its 25th year," explained Ivins.
Ivins added that the Loeries' Committee was satisfied that the weekend of 7-8 June 2003 accommodated the needs of all key role-players.
Loerie Awards Manager, Sylvia Newby, stated that other events aligned to the Loerie Awards would not be affected by the function being brought forward by a week. "For example, the exhibition of the efforts of our finalists will still go on display at Sandton City from 29 May to 2 June as planned," she said.
This year's print and electronic categories, sponsored by Media 24 and MNET respectively, promises to be a dazzling event on the occasion of the Loerie Awards' 25th anniversary.
