Marketing & Media South Africa

The media: how powerful, exactly?

Almost on a daily basis, the media expose or report on yet another instance of corruption or police brutality and, as Anton Harber wrote last week on Bizcommunity.com, "Now the media is uninhibited in exposing government corruption and security force brutality. In fact, the work of investigative journalists led to the firing of the last police commissioner and the imprisonment of his predecessor, as well as the dismissal of three cabinet ministers." However, those who ended up sentenced to jail time, served little or no time, which is why Ed Herbst asks:
So who's gone to jail? and suggests that in fact, for a variety of reasons, the media is relatively impotent.

We live in an age of information overload - and that is why Hansie Smit suggests some ways for you to write a thrilling newsletter.

You shop 'til you drop, right? But you don't particularly enjoy the experience - and that's no surprise, because as Louise Marsland suggests, the one massive sector of the market that seems to withstand any and all attempts to provide a better experience for the consumer is the retail sector - and she reckons those in it need to innovate in-store.
