Incentives-based HIV-status awareness campaign
The Indlu Yegazi project targets unemployed men and uses a unique incentive-based model to educate, test and counsel these men about their HIV status. The men who stand by the side of the road waiting for work have previously been ignored or untouched by HIV and Aids programmes. However, they are one of the highest risk groups in South Africa being poor, living in unhygienic, overcrowded, informal settlements and rarely coming into contact with the health system.
The Indlu Yegazi model is groundbreaking because it encourages men who are HIV negative to maintain their status through education and frequent testing matched by incentives every time they test negative after the conclusion of the first test.
Individuals and corporates can get involved in this exciting initiative by sponsoring a test worth R75. Our field workers organise the men, provide food and transport on the day of testing, and a basic incentive for one days work that has been lost and is worth R75.
