ISO to withdraw JPEG image standard
You might be unaware that Forgent Networks, a small Texan company, owns the JPEG image standard patent which is used throughout the web. They are starting to charge companies who use the format and have received $15 million to date, reportedly from Sony.
The ISO standards body announced that it will withdraw the JPEG image format as a formal standard if Forgent Networks continues to demand royalties on the seventeen-year old patent.
