3rd Annual Vega Showcase
On the 1st November, Vega The Brand Communications School in Cape Town held a celebration in honour of the nerve to pause. It was the 3rd annual showcase for the three year old campus and also a tribute to the first 3rd year creatives to be graduating into industry.
The pause is a moment to contemplate and absorb. It symbolises taking a step back, exploring different avenues and questioning everything, even the existence of the question itself. The evening was dedicated to every Vega student brave enough to challenge the status quo.
Entrance to the exhibition started at 7 o'clock, where the celebrating staff and students were joined by parents, friends and industry professionals who had the opportunity to get to know the students and explore their portfolio of work.
Through the corridors, walls were plastered with students' personal stories of moments in which they've paused and experienced insight and creativity. Each story conveyed the message that it was not only the work that was important, but also the people behind it. There were rooms dedicated to 1st, 2nd and Honours years, with perhaps the most memorable room being a curious dark room where an intimate close-up of each and every student's face was projected onto a massive screen. This room of student tribute led to the main attraction of the night, which was the 3rd year exhibition rooms, where each student personalised their space to best describe themselves, their nerve to pause and of course, show off their work.
The Vega Nerve to Pause Showcase event was a reminder of the importance of pausing, seeing the people and creative development behind the work, and a reminder of those moments in our lives when we've left comfort zones, paused, and discovered something new.
