Services SETA roadshow in Johannesburg

Dr. Sihle Moon, who has been the Services SETA administrator since July 2011, will address the media and stakeholders at a stakeholder session on 29 September 2011 at Cedar Park Hotel & Conference Venue, Sandton, Johannesburg.

Moon and the management team will be addressing positive changes and new developments following the SETA's major changes over the last few months, as part of a countrywide road show, which ends in Kimberley on 17 October 2011.

Moon will reveal his hard line approach to the high unemployment rates and low skills base in our country, the disjuncture between education and training and what is needed to stimulate sustainable growth and development.

The SETA has R522 million discretionary grants to spend on skills development interventions for the fiscal year 2011-2012. It is overhauling its finances, with the ultimate goal being procurement management, building internal and financial capacity and responding to the Auditor-General report.

Identify new opportunities

The presentation will explain the essence and rationale of the SETA and address queries of levy-paying members as well as accredited and aspirant training providers who can identify new opportunities in their environment.

Task team members are being mandated to re-activate chambers and identify industry-specific challenges. A directive has also been sent for an analysis of capacity for training roll out.

Moving forward, the SETA is looking at the adoption of the constitution and appointment of the accounting authority by the Minister of Higher Education and Training during its Special General Meeting to be hosted on 17 November 2011. It is also investigating systems for impact measurement that will assist in measuring the impact of the various skills development interventions implemented by the SETA.
