Blowing bubbles on air
MFM 92.6, Alpha Dive Centre and Stellenbosch University's Underwater Club have joined forces to present South Africa with an innovative underwater broadcasting experience. MFM 92.6 will run continuous live links during its lunch time show on Friday 19 August 2005 from the Coetzenburg swimming pool at the university gym.
The underwater broadcast will be made possible by specialized underwater communication equipment, brought in for the event.
Vlok, MFM's man in the water, says: "Learning how to master the equipment was quite challenging but I'm looking forward to this next challenge in my broadcasting career."
Ettiene Raal, owner of Alpha Dive, adds: "Diving is one of my absolute passions and I am thrilled to try new and innovative things surrounding this amazing activity."
MFM believes that this could be a first for South African radio and is currently unaware of any other attempts to date. MFM's station manager, Martin de Abreu, says: "As a modern day and relevant radio station, MFM is always looking for new challenges and partners with whom we can share these adventures with."
