NEWSWATCH: Western Cape police commissioner Mzwandile Petros yesterday, Tuesday, 16 October 2007, called a press conference in which he denied that there were any pending warrants for the arrest of Sunday Times editor Mondli Makhanya and head of investigations Jocelyn Maker in connection with the alleged theft of health minister Manto Tshabala-Msimang's medical records, reports The Times [see Zoopy videos on our blog]. Meanwhile, the Nelson Mandela Foundation has released a statement supporting press freedom in South Africa, according to Business Day, which also reports on the latest objections in Parliament yesterday by media organisations concerning the controversial Films and Publications Amendment Bill .
Sadly, News24.com reports that Patrick "Kid" Mokoena, the Soul City actor, was shot dead on the weekend at a Johannseburg bar in “what appeared to have been a targeted killing.”
