WFTU: SA Labour Court "aligned with big capital interests"
The World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU), an Athens based organisation with 82-million members, said in a statement that it denounces the Johannesburg Labour Court's decision to turn down an urgent application by the National Union of Mineworkers to stop Eskom from introducing a unilateral 7% pay rise.
In a statement, the WFTU supported NUM's demands, among them a 13% salary increase, arguing further that the Labour Court's ruling in favour of Eskom in a wage dispute shows that it is aligned with the interests of big capital.
Earlier, Labour Court Judge Graham Moshoana ruled the application did not satisfy the requirements of an interdict: "The parties have deadlocked and there is no constitutional right available to the applicants," he said and dismissed the application without costs.
