67 minutes for Mandela - On the Dot lends a helping hand

On the Dot Gauteng Division In loving memory of the father of our beloved nation, Tata Nelson Mandela, On the Dot Pamphlets visited Dorah's Ark Children's Home in Roodepoort on Friday, 18 July 2014, to lend a helping hand, and welcomed children of different ages to a hearty meal of hotdogs, cool-drinks and cupcakes. All of which put beautiful smiles on all the faces of the children of Dorah's Ark.

While they were there, the On the Dot team spent some time playing with the children and also enjoyed fun-filled activities, which included exciting face-painting, a fun game of soccer and even turning the soil in their vegetable patch.

On the Dot Western Cape Division

OTD sales Department Western Cape donated their 67 minutes for Mandela Day to the fur kids at the Animal Anti Cruelty League in Epping. The lovely Mpho at the AACL gave us a quick brief on how we would spend our time and how to handle the dogs should any difficulties arise. We would be taking them for a walk, for an hour and in a big group. This is very rare for the dogs to be able to go for such a long walk and we were more than happy to oblige. We went down to the kennels and we were each able to pick our fur kid for a walk.

Once our dogs were on their leads and the kennel minders (armed with poop scoops and water) were ready, we made our way out. It was a lovely experience to see the dogs running, playing and interacting with the other dogs. It was amazing to see how quickly they adapted to us. In the beginning they were either quite shaky or barky or difficult and by the end, they were quite attached to us. We had a lovely time and the AACL were very grateful to us for choosing them and for our donation of dog and cat food.

On the Dot KZN Division

The KZN team joined in with the "We are Durban" organisation that is responsible for various volunteer works in KZN. For our 67 minutes for Mandela we chose to develop the garden area for Hope House in Pinetown.

Hope House is a home for abandoned babies. At present they have five babies between 9 weeks and 10 months of age with three caretakers taking care of the children. Something they really wanted was the front garden to be prettied up. On the Dot chose to plant a rose garden - Starting out with a bare patch of sand, weeds and roots we laughed and worked our way to a final product that we were all very proud of. Throughout the morning we had the opportunity to meet with the babies and caretakers.

"Thank you so much for everything! It is so much appreciated! Wow we are overwhelmed with the generosity of everybody! Thanks so much." - Michelle (Hope House)
