The South African Market (Sam) is located at 107 Bree Street, Cape Town, and in celebration of its first birthday is offering a 10% discount on selected items for the month of December, just in time for Christmas.
One year on and Sam is still going strong

It is a curated collective of some of the best local fashion, jewellery, décor, furniture, stationery, accessories and design. It has grown from a collection of 45 to 90 designers, providing them with a space to display their ranges and offering them exposure to both the local and international market.

A partnership between South African, Berlinda White and Dutch national, Naomi Bossert, the market prides itself in showcasing unique items of an international standard. "There is so much talent and creativity to appreciate in our country and we aim to help the designers receive the appreciation and revenue they deserve," says Bossert.

"South Africans love the convenience of parking somewhere and being able to get everything they need from that one place. Because we offer an all-encompassing experience, the market has become firmly entrenched as a one-stop-destination for gifts. In addition to steady business from locals and tourists throughout the week, First Thursdays a monthly cultural event, where visitors are encouraged to explore the city's art galleries, fashion and décor boutiques on foot, has been successful. In November we had almost 2,300 people through the door," adds White.

Bossert continues, "The quality of the design ranges is evident - the market has become a popular stop on the tourist route and we have received international recognition over the last year. Our space was the location for an episode of Sweden's Next Top Model reality show and we participated in the Edinburgh International Fashion Festival, where Camila Parker Bowles, the Duchess Cornwall popped in for a spot of shopping."

"One of our goals is to share South African stories by helping to place South African design in homes around the world. To do this our plans for 2015 include launching our online store so that our clients can access our products even when they are not in town and attending the Edinburgh International Fashion Festival for a second time. We are also considering having a pop-up-market in the Netherlands and Germany."
