Costs set private health care on fire
Soaring health-care costs in private hospitals remained the main contributor to the high cost of private health care in the country, and the Department of Health is working on ways to address this pricing issue, it said last week.
Between 2009 and 2010 the country experienced a decline in medicine expenditure. This was largely due to the costs of medical items, the findings of the 2010 Mediscor Medicines Review has revealed.
Medicine items costs went up by 5.8 percent, compared with 11.7 percent in 2009. However, new medicines entering the market proved expensive, limiting the number of people who are able to utilise them. Read more.
