Doing a Greater Good
The SA-born website was the only African finalist out of 23 finalists representing organizations from Australia, Canada, Italy, South Africa and the United states, across four award categories.
Ted Hart, President and CEO of the ePhilanthropy Foundation says the aim of the awards is to encourage and support best practices in the ePhilanthropy arena and that the judging panel was unanimous in its decision.
Ian Davidson, MD of Generator says the key to the site's success is its ability to facilitate the "gift of giving" in a number of ways: "People can choose how they would like to support good causes by giving away their surplus or unused goods, they can volunteer their skills, expertise and time, as well as donate money or purchase goods from the Good Shop, which further assists non-profit organizations around the country. In addition to donating money, they can also use membership rewards points as donation currency.
"In designing and developing the site we spent a huge amount of time addressing user experience issues and how we could deliver a product that sells itself, encourages repeat visits and appeals to both corporates and individuals alike.
"We are proud to be associated with Greater Good SA's success and look forward playing a bigger role in growing this sector of the market. This website is living proof that technology can play a significant role in uplifting the lives of the less privileged communities out there," says Davidson.
