Communications go online for World Cup
Switch on for communities
The low power transmitter in Ekulindeni near Badplaas in Mpumalanga was switched on by the Minister of Communications, General (Ret) Siphiwe Nyanda at 10.30am today, ensuring that about 20 000 community members are part of the historic event, as they get access to the live coverage of the 64 matches broadcast by the SABC through TV and radio.
The installation of the transmitter is a partnership between the Ministry of Communications, the SABC and state signal distributor, Sentech and is part of the ministry's programme to ensure access to ICT to urban and rural communities in the country.
