Show profile Hide profilePraneet Valodia, an extra-ordinary professor, is currently an independent healthcare consultant.
In July 2016, he was the recipient of the Titanium Lifetime Achievement Award. This award, adjudicated by the Board of Healthcare Funders of Southern Africa, recognizes excellence and significant contributions to the healthcare industry in Southern Africa.
In October 2016, he was the recipient of National Pioneer Pharmacy Professional Award and the recipient of the National Pharmacist Award (Research, Consultancy, Clinical), both awards were presented by the South African Pharmacy Council. In 2015, Praneet was a recipient of the UWC Chancellor's Outstanding Alumnus Award for making a significant contribution in the field of Health Sciences.
After serving as an academic staff member for 16 years, he entered the corporate sector on a full-time basis in 2002. He joined Metropolitan Health where he worked as a director of medicine risk management, clinical executive, head of product development, research and development executive, and chairman of the Drugs and Therapeutics committee. He was the clinical executive for the Qualsa Bankmed and Qualsa Pro Sano business units. From 1997 to 2005 Praneet served as a Managed Health Care consultant to Pro Sano Medical Scheme.
In 2009, Praneet was appointed in the Health Intelligence Unit at Medscheme. In 2011, he joined the Independent Clinical Oncology Network (ICON) as an executive manager for innovation and development. At ICON, he also served as the chairman of the oncology formulary committee. Besides innovation, he was involved with developing public-private partnerships in 6 provinces in South Africa. He also served as a member of the Western Cape Provincial Coding Committee (2001-2002).
In 2015, Praneet started his own business as an independent healthcare consultant offering services in the fields of data analytics, medicine management, disease management, clinical trial evaluation, pharmaco- and health economics, innovation in healthcare, developing market access solutions for medicines, health outcomes research, advisory to managed healthcare and medical schemes, health and medicine policy for government and healthcare advocacy, etc.
While working in the corporate sector, the University Western Cape also appointed him as an extra-ordinary professor 6 times.
Between 2004 and 2011 he served as an invited member of the honorary editorial board of the prestigious international journal Therapeutics and Clinical Risk Management.
Praneet has over 30 years' experience in managed healthcare, public health, pharmaceutical policy and training, and a strong track record in technology development and innovation. He has interacted with government, medical schemes, health care professionals, academics, industry bodies and professional societies. He has also worked with a number of world renowned experts. His research has been published in various accredited journals, and he has presented his research findings at numerous national and international scientific and healthcare conferences.
