I am a 24 year old Professional Nurse (PN) in the Trauma Casualty unit of the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic hospital. I am thankful to be a nurse everyday because I get to advocate for people who are at their weakest.

During my four years of studies, I was exposed to various specialities within the nursing field. These include medical wards, surgical wards, theatre, Intensive Care Unit, casualties, oncology, orthopaedic units, psychiatry, primary health care, gynaecology and maternity.

During the four years I enjoyed surgical wards (pre- and post operating wards) as there was wound care involved. I am also very passionate about working in the trauma casualty unit for the simple reason; you never know who the next patient will be and what their injuries would be like. It's the numerous unknown experiences in the trauma casualty unit that taught me to think on my feet and always be prepared for the unknown. From the aforementioned it is evident that I have a passion for wound care and injured patients.

I believe there is still a lot I can learn with regards to wound care and - management, as well as assisting trauma patients in a casualty. That is why I would like to broaden and increase my knowledge by experiencing the private sector, as I have been working in public sector for five years.
