Manenberg Youth Arts and Culture Project needs sponsorship

My name is Christine Schoeman and I like working with youth and I have been doing this as a volunteer since 2001. I live in a community called Manenberg on the Cape Flats in Cape Town, South Africa. Manenberg is rife with gangsterism, drugs and alcohol abuse, teenage pregnancy, school drop outs, single parent homes and so much more social ills. We are a group of youth from Manenberg that would like to start a project in our community for the youth, like an after school programme and we are approaching individuals like yourself and organisations to help us with sponsorship of art materials. The project will be Arts and Life skills incorporated in one. Dancing workshops, drawing, painting, photography, drama and poetry will all be part of this project and it will be an after school project for youth between the ages of 10-17 years of age. We really want to make this project work because we really feel that the youngsters in Manenberg just need positive guidance to make a positive change in their lives and in Africa. We would like to show them that there is another way of living and getting out of the community. That gangsterism and selling drugs is not going to get them anywhere but in jail or dead.

We really care and we asking you as a stranger I guess to care to. If you can assist us with art materials like drawing books, paint, paint brushes,etc then we welcome it with open arms. Help us make a difference and create a positive chain in this world.

We would like to run this project successfully which will run in 2009/2010 for the youth of Manenberg twice a week after school.
