Junior Data Scientist

Location: George, Western Cape |  full-time

Are you ready to kick-start your career in machine learning and data science? At Badger Holdings SA, we’re looking for a junior data scientist who’s eager to turn raw data into real-world impact.

As part of our dynamic data science team, you’ll work closely with experienced professionals to design, build, and maintain machine learning solutions that drive business success.

Purpose of the role

Your mission is to support the end-to-end development and deployment of ML solutions. From cleaning data to building models and monitoring them in production, you’ll gain practical, hands-on experience while learning from experts.
Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and clean data for machine learning tasks (e.g. transformation, feature engineering).

• Conduct exploratory data analysis (EDA) to guide model development.

• Support the retraining and improvement of live models.

• Participate in model validation and performance evaluations.

• Monitor deployed models for performance issues or data drift.

• Assist in maintaining and troubleshooting ML pipelines and deployments.

• Help document data processes, models, and system workflows.

 What we’re looking for

Essential qualifications and skills:

• Degree in data science, computer science, engineering, mathematics, statistics, or actuarial science.

• A curious, analytical mindset with a passion for working with data.

• Self-driven with strong initiative to learn and contribute meaningfully.

 Nice to have (advantageous):

• Internship or project experience in the insurance or financial services sector.

• Hands-on experience with ML or data analysis (academic or practical).

• Familiarity with Python, R, SQL, Snowflake, or ML platforms.
