As part of its CSI, the GrandWest Casino and Entertainment World embarked on a school stationery project for disadvantaged learners at the Easter Peak Primary School in Manenberg. Learners were presented with their new stationery as the new academic year began arming the Easter Peak learners with their required tools to take on some learning.

Vodacom gives learners the gift of vision
Vodacom has pledged its support to the Gift of Vision programme along with the Western Cape health department and the Health Foundation. As part of the programme, underprivileged learners (between grades R and 7) in Paarl are able to have their eyes tested and receive a free pair of prescription glasses as the network purchased 369 pairs of glasses worth R80,000.

The magic of the festive season spreads to SOS Children's Village
Marking the end to a public CSI drive to help a child “Share in the Magic” of the festive season, the Cresta Shopping Centre donated 874 Mickey and Minnie Mouse plush toys to the SOS Children's Village at an event held in Ennerdale, Gauteng. An additional R21,796 was also donated to the centre, who, in collaboration with The Walt Disney Company Africa, kicked off the initiative on 1 December 2016....

GWM charity drive spread the Christmas cheer
GWM South Africa visited several charities on a two-day-long charity drive in Johannesburg in December. The media and celebrities tested out the GVM SUV-style M4 and Steed 5E bakkie while spreading cheer at the Princess Alice Adoption Home, Growing Champions, Kitty and Puppy Haven, Lighthouse Baby Shelter, CHOC and Cradle of Hope.

GrandWest host Santa's Workshop Party and Santa Shoebox packing
The social economic development department of GrandWest Casino and Entertainment World held the Santa's Workshop Party at GrandWest's Sun Exhibits for underprivileged children from various charities. GrandWest also hosted a Santa Shoebox Project event at which 240 boxes were packed.

FutureMe held their first World of Work (WoW) festival on 25 November at Christel House School in Cape Town. The social enterprise, aimed at addressing the youth unemployment crisis in South Africa, introduced the festival as an interactive event for learners and employers to gain first-hand exposure to a vast array of careers and employers.

Beauty Without Cruelty calls for cage-free policy
In March 2016, Beauty Without Cruelty called for the end of hen suffering by committing to a petition for a cage-free policy to be adopted by Mcdonalds SA. United Front 4 Animals (UFA), OWL, South African Faith Communities' Environment Institute (SAFCEI) and Animal Voice, the official South African representative of Compassion in World Farming, added their voices to the campaign. The Mcdonalds franchises based in the US and Canada have already begun to phase out battery-cage use in their supply chain enterprises which have been beneficial to the hens that produce eggs for their consumers. Mcdonalds SA is yet to adopt this policy....
