Google funds 25 South African publications
The Google News Initiative Journalism Emergency Relief Fund (JERF) has announced it is funding 25 South African publications to help ease financial hardship as a result of the economic and advertising downturn.
The fund was launched in April and seeks to provide $39.5 million to publishers in 115 countries. Cape Times, Township News, Seipone Madireng, Klankkoerant, Mail and Guardian and Voice of the Cape radio are some of the publishers that will receive the funding.
