Is low freelance pay killing journalism?
The Southern African Freelancers Association (SAFREA) have released a post stating that low editorial rates are "threatening to kill journalism".
There is no doubt that media has taken a turn towards digital and social media, but the basis of good investigative journalism is still warranted. Hagen Engler, SAFREA exco member says "media companies are focusing on the bottom line. They are diversifying into digital platforms and entertainment. This is all very well, but investigative journalism is the lifeblood of civil society."
