R2 million raised for police widows and orphans fund
The Minister of Police, Nathi Mthethwa and National Commissioner, General Bheki Cele, has thanked South Africans for pledging towards the Police Widows and Orphans Fund. Acting on the shocking news that five police officers had been killed this week and 56 have been killed this year, Lead SA called on South Africans to show their support for the families left behind in these tragedies. Primedia Broadcasting stations encouraged listeners to pledge via sms - and the donations poured in. This call to pledge was inspired by Lead SA and supported by Crime Line, the Shout Foundation as well as the Independent Group.
