Nederburg triumphs at Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show
At the 2014 Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show, Nederburg won two trophies, for The Brew Master and Eminence, and a gold medal for Private Bin D234.
Razvan Macici, Nederburg cellar master
The 2010 vintage of The Brew Master won for best Bordeaux-style blend. A Cabernet Sauvignon-led blend, it includes Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. It has been named in honour of Johann Graue, a brewer from Germany, who bought the farm in 1937 and introduced many significant vineyard and cellar innovations. Nederburg sells it from the visitors' centre for R120 a bottle.
The second trophy, for best natural sweet dessert wine was awarded to the 2011 Eminence, made for exclusive sale on the annual Nederburg Wine Auction. The 2011 Private Bin D234, sourced from Darling grapes, was one of only two Sauvignon blanc gold medallists on the show.
