Fives Futbol and UK professionals educate local youths
"It's fantastic to be working with such a world renowned organisation who we can learn from and utilise their expertise in improving the talented footballing youth in this country," says CEO of Fives Futbol, Adam Fine.
The day's agenda will include a day tour, a trip to Robben Island and ending off in a march lead by England's Professional Football Association (PFA) delegation to the Fives Futbol V&A Waterfront venue in Cape Town for a fun five-a-side tournament. In addition to the day's activities, the coaches will deliver HIV awareness and life skills sessions to the kids.
Life-changing experience
The kids who benefit are often vulnerable - many are orphaned or disabled. They have little to no access to sport and health education, so the chance to play football in a proper kit and take part in a tournament can be a life-changing experience. So far, approximately 50,000 children have benefited from football and HIV awareness sessions.
"This year's visit of England's PFA to South Africa marks the legacy left by Nelson Mandela. The tournament will be organised by UK and SA young volunteers aged between 18 and 23, from Skillshare International's International Citizen Service programme, who will then become ambassadors for the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund back in the UK," says programme manager at Coaching for Hope, Norman Brook.
