Jacaranda FM's Sisters with Blisters walk raises R400k
Over 5,000 men, women, children and pets took to the streets in Fourways for Jacaranda FM's Sisters with Blisters 5km fundraising walk to raise awareness for the plight of woman and children in solidarity with the 16 Days of Activism campaign.
A R400,000 cheque was handed over by Jacaranda FM General Manager Kevin Fine to Women and Men Against Child Abuse (WMACA), a non-profit organisation committed to fighting for the rights of the child and to end the abuse of children in South Africa through a multifaceted and aggressive offensive against any form of abuse and gender violence.
In its eighth year, Sisters with Blisters is attended by South Africans from all walks of life who are united in a single cause to let the healing begin and to support those who are the victims of abuse.
Jacaranda FM's DJs Rian van Heerden, Martin Bester, Barney Simon and Frankie du Toit were there to show their support along with celebrities Rosie Motene, Jason Greer, singer Nadine and actor Brandon Auret.
Women from the South African Police Services Provincial Family Violence, Child Offences and Sexual Offences Unit made it clear that they firmly stand by the work that they do by trading in their working shoes for walking shoes and showing their support.
Martin Bester, Jacaranda FM personality, said, "Today's turnout is amazing and I am happy to have been part of it. For me there are at least two reasons why we are doing this; firstly to present the survivors and victims of abuse with our support and secondly to send a very strong message out to the perpetrators and the authorities that we are serious about this issue. It is unacceptable!"
The money raised from Sisters with Blisters will go towards the ongoing work of WMACA which provide ongoing support to the Kidz Clinics which provide a range of comprehensive, professional, child-friendly treatment services to the victims of child abuse.
