[Biz Takeouts Podcast] 108: Fred Robertson - Southern African Entrepreneur of the Year
The victors of the Southern African round of Africa's prestigious business awards were announced at a glittering ceremony in Johannesburg on 2 October.
Robertson, a leading figure in the region's business landscape, has gained experience on national and international business stages through his directorship and co-founding of numerous leading of Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) companies; including the JSE-listed brokerage, Brimstone Investment Corporation Limited, where he serves as Chairman.
The awards recognises the continent's most pioneering business game-changers in a variety of categories that mirror the multifaceted nature of the African business landscape. The awards celebrate an excellence emphasised by boldness and rare character. In turn, the awards recognise those indelible business leaders who have made a distinctive contribution in their respective sectors by demonstrating accountability, best practice, integrity and innovation on the continent.
The award categories include Young Business Leader of the Year, Business Leader of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year and the Lifetime Achievement Award sponsored by Johnnie Walker Blue Label.
Robertson joined us to chat about what the award means to him, the importance of entrepreneurial spirit in South Africa and Africa, his team, as well as which entrepreneurs inspire and motivate him.
The final AABLA event will take place on 14 November in Johannesburg when the West Africa, East Africa and Southern Africa winners will gather in a room to recognise the continent's great leaders and ultimately award one victor in each category.
