South African wins Barry Prize

South African fiction writer Deon Meyer has won the American Barry Prize as the best thriller of 2011 for his book entitled Thirteen Hours.

His book was originally published in Afrikaans and was nominated in the Best Thriller category alongside the American Assassin by Vince Flynn and Bolt Action by Charles Charters.

The Barry Prize is presented by Deadly Pleasures America's top-selling crime magazine. The award is named after Barry Gardner, a renowned critic. Meyer's new book, Sewe Dae is due to be released in November.

The Best Novel of the year was won by Steve Hamilton for his book The Lock Artist.
