Commending the academic success of our leaners

The English improvement Certificate Ceremony that took place on 21 October 2011 at the Professional Development Hub (PDH) paid tribute to the learners that have worked hard to achieve competence in their respective levels.

Dr. Nhlanhla Thwala, Director of the Wits Language School, and Lambrine Pavlou both emphasised the importance of empowering oneself through education and commended the learners for their desire to develop and enhance their language skills and therefore taking that step in seeking out the knowledge. The commitment and perseverance exhibited by the learners to achieve their language goals resonated with all that were present at the event.

Our learners and their respective family and friends were also treated to the inspiring and encouraging words of our guest speaker, Mr. Mcintosh Polela.

Mr. Polela, former TV journalist and now HAWKS spokesperson, has been on our television screens for many years and has achieved great success in his career. His life journey, however, was not a smooth one.

Polela spoke about the difficulties of his childhood and how he prevailed despite this. He went on to obtain a Master's Degree from London School of Economics as well as publish a book about his life. Polela highlighted the importance education and reading and how they have affected his own life as well as the significance of being able to effectively communicate in English and cultivate one's English skills.

The evening concluded with the handing over of the certificates to our learners. The ceremony was indeed a proud event for the Wits Language School and its learners.
