Mediclinic shines in quality care
It is the fifth time that these facilities have entered into the COHSASA programme with MediClinic Welkom achieving an overall score of 98 out of a possible 100 and MediClinic Vergelegen achieving a score of 99. This latter score is remarkable because it was achieved only a year after the hospital was flooded and had to evacuate its patients. In 12 months, the hospital has repaired all flood damage and is operating at full capacity.
COHSASA's technical committee noted that MediClinic Welkom is one of the first private healthcare facilities to achieve compliance with all the criteria related to doctors' involvement, especially record keeping. Both MediClinic hospitals will receive an interim survey after two years to ensure that standards are compliant.
COHSASA, a not-for-profit company (NPC) based in Cape Town, has been evaluating healthcare facilities in Africa for the past 19 years. An accreditation award from COHSASA means the healthcare organisation has entered a quality improvement programme and has been assessed against, and met, standards recognised by the International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua). It also means that the facilities listed below are well placed to provide quality and safe care to the communities they serve.
