Effective Maths support matters more than ever, which makes access an important part of improving exam outcomes.
“A learner’s access to Maths support can be shaped by a learner’s circumstances, from the cost of additional resources to data and reliable connectivity,” says James Lees, CEO of Advantage Learn. “Finding ways to reduce those barriers, particularly at critical points in the school year, can give more learners the opportunity to get the support they need.”
From 1 September to 31 October 2026, learners in Grades 8-12 can download the Advantage Learn app at no cost. It includes lessons, quizzes and assignments, and is designed to support offline learning.
It has in the past seen participants increase their Maths exam marks by 15-20% and, as an added incentive, learners stand to win cash and other prizes, including two R10,000 cash prizes sponsored by PPS Insurance.
The immediate value is practical. “Our technology gives learners another route into understanding, rather than simply putting more content in front of them,” says Lees.
“Being able to stop, revisit a concept, practise it, and try again can change how a learner feels about their own ability and, in turn, this confidence can translate into better marks.”
For learners who have already taken part in the competition, the value of that additional practice is tangible. Afia Marcus says the resources helped with her revision and “exam mindset”, while Londani Magwede says the explanations made difficult Maths concepts easier to understand.
“For learners, the immediate priority is making use of quality Maths support, regardless of their connectivity or circumstances, so that they make the most of the weeks before their final exams,” says Lees.
