Cappi has been developed by professionals with backgrounds in both education and technology, with the design specifically for the South African education system.
"We believe that education should create clarity, yet too often the people working within the system experience complexity. We built Cappi because we feel it’s important that educational technology restores structure, rather than adding noise,” explains Tim Holliday, founder of Maze Education and creator and co-founder of Cappi.
"Teachers deserve support that respects their professional judgment, learners deserve guidance that builds understanding rather than dependency, and parents deserve the confidence to meaningfully support learning at home. This technology is basically the engine behind that vision, with education our primary purpose."
Supporting every role in the education ecosystem
Cappi draws from official Caps curriculum documentation, providing users with structured educational guidance and supporting references – rather than unrestricted, internet-generated content.
The platform was beta-tested with practising teachers in various schools across the country – with an overwhelmingly positive response. Further to this, Cappi combines curriculum relevance with role-specific experiences for teachers, learners, and parents, tailoring the support to the user as needed.
Cappi acts as a structured educational assistant for teachers, helping reduce preparation pressure while keeping teachers firmly in control of their teaching and assessment. Through its design, Cappi complements professional judgment rather than replacing it, allowing teachers to spend less time on repetitive preparation and more time engaging with their learners.
The teacher portal supports lesson planning, worksheet creation, classroom activities, assessments, rubrics and curriculum-grounded explanations, with exports available in PDF, Docx, and Google Docs formats.
Using Cappi, teachers can:
- Browse curriculum documentation
- Access Grade 10-12 past papers where available
- Create quizzes and share them directly to students' devices, including mobile phones, for a quick review of learning
- Organise resources in a personal library
- Generate classroom-ready material
For learners from Grade 8 upwards, the learner portal serves as a tutor, using Socratic questioning techniques to guide students through problem-solving steps rather than simply providing direct answers. Built-in homework integrity safeguards encourage learners to work through concepts rather than merely accessing answers.
Features include:
- Topic explanations
- Personalised study support
- Exam preparation with direct interface into past papers for Grade 12 final-year preparation
- Practice quizzes
- Revision tools
- Grade 10 to 12 past papers where available
- Guided feedback for genuine understanding
Parents can access practical guidance that helps them understand what their children are learning and how best to support them without guessing the context of the content.
The parent portal provides:
- Plain-language explanations
- Curriculum visibility by grade, subject, and term
- Individual profiles for each child
- Study tips
- Revision quiz creation
Beyond curriculum grounding, Cappi includes multilingual support across all 11 official South African languages, as well as French, German, and Hebrew. There are also accessibility features for colour-blind users, curriculum references, learner safeguards, and role-specific experiences for teachers, learners, and parents.
Cappi is available from R99 per month for use across Windows, macOS, as well as Android devices.
In support of this new educational platform, Acer Africa is including Cappi Student vouchers with its latest batch of 4000 Acer computers, available from Walmart, South Africa.
