Senior appointments at Endemol SA
Povey started his career in the television industry 18 years ago with the SABC and has since been involved in many aspects of broadcasting and production. After five years at the SABC, with involvement in transmission and programme acceptance, he joined M-Net where he was involved in various sectors of the business.
His roles at M-Net ranged from on air manager, responsible for implementation and maintenance of new and existing channels to account executive and most recently supervising producer/commissioning editor for the children and youth channel, where he was responsible for all local production content from a concept, technical and creative perspective.
Within Endemol, Povey will be responsible for scripted and non-scripted business in both South Africa and other African ventures that Endemol is pursuing, and will be part of the management team. He says he is “excited to join such a formidable and dynamic company and looking forward to the challenge ahead to develop and deliver the best quality entertainment content, for both the South African and Sub-Saharan emerging African markets.”
Part of management team
As head of creative, Wayment will also be part of the management team and will be responsible for creating new shows for Endemol South Africa. His experience expands across live and reality show entertainment, observational documentary making, corporate film production, content acquisitions, covert exposés and even advertising.
Wayment has five years of experience in both the UK and South Africa in spearheading R&D departments and conceptualising (and realising) treatments across all visual entertainment platforms.
Comments Wayment, “Within Endemol South Africa there is still scope to diversify and increase the business further across all media platforms, programme genres, and production budget scales both in SA and throughout the continent. It is critical that one adapts and evolves its business to suit the current economic climate and the needs of the country. In this privileged position, to not exploit the Endemol brand and its undisputed expertise in this strategic broader diversification would be a tragedy on multiple levels, and many a lost opportunity.
“Watch out for Endemol adding more programme genres to its already large portfolio; increasing its output with inimitable creative propositions; and actively working with a broader broadcaster base.”
