SABC board told to grow up

NEWSWATCH: The MPs have finally 'had it' with what apparently passes for responsible conduct at board level at the SABC and slammed board members for neglecting their duties, a range of failures, and acting like a bunch of brats in a playschool, instead of performing their duties as they are paid to do, reports Times Live. Meanwhile, the four board members who resigned have been banned from speaking at the parliamentary meeting set up to investigate, amongst other things presumably, why they resigned, reports The New Age, and Ben Ngubane may have shot himself in the foot, reports Politicsweb.

  • Times Live: 'Childish' SABC board lashed... It had to come... Finally, MPs are getting cheesed off with the biggest circus in town... If the board of a private or listed company was anything like that which passes for the SABC's - neglecting its duties, failing to perform and generally acting like kids, the company would either go bust in weeks, and/or the board members would be out on their ears. However, this is the SABC... so-o-o-o...
  • The New Age: No speaking rights for SABC four... "We have taken advice from the legal section and our understanding is that those four members are no longer board members of the SABC as from yesterday, so they have no speaking rights in the meeting," says Ismail Vadi, the chairman of Parliament's portfolio committee on communications. With tears in our bloodshot eyes, where's the sense in that? Surely, when board members are so frustrated that they resign, they are the very people you should listen to; they will tell you what's up the creek and probably forthrightly as they have nothing to lose. But wait! Could it be that it's feared they may say something that - shock and horror - points to a major screw-up by the SABC's main shareholder? We're only asking...
  • Politicsweb: Nicholson situation illegal, says SABC chairman Ngubane... And Nicholson promptly responds by telling Ngubane that 'that's because you haven't signed the delegation of authority letter'. So perhaps what Ngubane says is true... 'there are many balls in the air'... One could say that it's one ball up in the air after another - so would it be true to say it's a balls-up type of situation?
