Industry discrimination in the spotlightWe lead with the IAB SA's exclusive new report on the digital salary survey, conducted in partnership with Millward Brown. It includes a downloadable PDF full of never-before-seen SA-specific digital specialist benchmarking detail to click through. When we talk salaries, the topic of discrimination isn't far behind. Race and gender are usually seen as the top forms of discrimination in the workplace, but what about ageism? Long-time ECD Tim Pinder exposes the sad state of ageism in advertising through his personal experience. It's an eye-opener. Also eye-opening is the fact that #Loeries2016 Creative Week Durban will be done and dusted in just a month. To whet your appetite I chatted to Jimmy Smith of Amusement Park Entertainment, this year's jury panel leader for the Loeries' print, outdoor and out of home category. He spoke of ways to defeat discrimination in the industry, as well as the importance of getting away from your desk in getting out of a creative rut. Next up, Walter Pike writes about the Zika virus, the Olympics and the decreasing importance of audience. He focuses on whether we're now at a media tipping point - the purpose of broadcasting professional sport is still to encourage people to watch TV so that marketers can interrupt them with advertising, but viewers are opting to skip advertising and even TV-viewing entirely. Lastly, click here if you'd still like to share your tribute to industry legend Gordon Patterson who passed away tragically late last week. Comment online in our ed's column archive.
