The African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) received a total of 328 entries from across Africa, an increase of 108 entries in 2011. This includes 134 feature films, 88 short films, 57 documentaries and six animations. 43 entries came from Africans in the Diaspora, with the other entries coming from 23 countries across the continent.

Electrical Engineering Solutions (EES) has been awarded the contract to project manage the information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure, from construction to operational service provisioning, for Cape Town Film Studios (CTFS), claimed to be South Africa's first major, Hollywood-style film studio in Cape Town. The African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP) presents the ACP-EU Support Programme for the ACP Cinema and Audiovisual Sector. The Secretariat of the ACP Group of States and the European Union have designed a new support programme for the ACP audiovisual sector, ACP Films (ie. cinema and television). ACP Films is managed by the ACP Secretariat and financed by the 9th European Development Fund (EDF).
