Data Engineer

We’re looking for a skilled Data Engineer with deep expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to join a rapidly expanding, high-energy team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and architectures that support data-driven decision-making across the organisation.

You’ll collaborate closely with data scientists and analysts to ensure efficient, reliable data flows that unlock meaningful insights and drive innovative solutions. The ideal candidate is highly analytical, self-driven, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment. A strong interest in African markets, paired with curiosity and a good sense of humour, will help you thrive in this role.

Responsibilities:

• Design and build scalable data pipelines and architectures using GCP technologies such as Dataflow, Big Query, Pub/Sub, and Cloud Storage
• Develop and manage robust ETL processes to transform raw data into clean, structured datasets
• Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to understand requirements and deliver data solutions that enable insights
• Create and maintain clear documentation for data pipelines, architectures, and data models
• Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues to ensure minimal disruption
• Optimise data pipelines for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency
• Automate workflows and processes to improve operational efficiency
• Ensure data quality, integrity, and governance across all systems
• Stay up to date with emerging GCP tools, best practices, and data engineering trends

Qualifications and experience:

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, data science, or a related field
• 5+ years’ experience as a data engineer or in a similar role
• Strong programming skills in Python, SQL, and Big Query
• Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
• Proven expertise in ETL development and data modelling
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities

The reference number for this position is NG61157 which is a permanent hybrid position based in Stellenbosch, Cape Town offering a cost to company of up to R1.4mil CTC negotiable on experience and ability.
